With so many amazing coffee roasters out there, it was a no-brainer to offer patrons of Carlington Coffee House a rotating selection of coffees from roasters near and far. Our goal is to try a little bit of everything, and to bring in a new roast every month or so. You can find out what we've featured in the past below, as well as what we're featuring right now.
Rabbit Hole Roasters are based out of the Montreal area. They focus on tasty coffees and emerging origins, while making sure that every decision they take will improve social justice, fight systemic racism, and impact the planet as little as possible. One of the reasons they called this company Rabbit Hole is because they want to dive infinitely deep in all thing’s coffee, from sustainability to tasting notes, from equality across the chain to brew ratios, etc.
All the employees who are roasting and packaging their coffee, are people living with disabilities. Their main mission is to provide stable employment and work experience, paid at a living wage, for people living with disabilities. In most provinces, people living with disabilities earn between 70 and 75 percent of the income earned by people without disabilities. Many also face significant barriers to finding meaningful employment at all. They are working to play a small part in helping to change this.
The Angry Roaster is a fairly new coffee roaster based out of Toronto. They are aiming to bridge the gap between the everyday unconscious coffee consumer and the speciality drinker, between farmer and roaster, barista and consumer, to bring the world together in a movement to inspire change and fairness.
Animated Coffee is a small batch coffee roaster located in Ottawa. They roast a variety of ethically sourced coffees, and 25% of proceeds are distributed to their animal rescue partners.
Cloud Forest Coffee is a coffee roaster based out of the Ottawa/Gatineau area. They import coffee from the Intag, a beautiful valley in the Ecuadorian Andes. Drinking a cup is part pleasure and part activism, because in purchasing these beans you support the community that grows them in their resistance to mining corporations.
