About Us
Carlington Coffee House started from the simple desire to walk down the road to enjoy a quality cup of coffee and maybe some snacks and treats. When the founders realized they weren't the only ones to share this sentiment, the process of making it a reality began.
The Journey
The journey to get here was definitely an interesting ride. As it turns out, converting a residential home built in the 40's into a commercial space that is capable of serving food requires patience and whole pile of approvals and permits. After all was approved and done, COVID-19 struck with force, and so we had to pivot slightly, offering a limited menu and take-out only options.
The Space
We love the character that these wonderfully-crafted war time homes bring to the neighbourhood, and so keeping that feel was something we worked very hard to do.
The interior has been kept relatively intact, preserving layout and materials where ever we could. As this style of house is very common in Carlington, it's always fun to meet customers that are curious to see what the inside has to offer in comparison to their home.
We are lucky to have a large outdoor space in both the front and rear of the shop. Our front patio offers a quaint seating area, with access to the hustle and bustle of Merivale Road. Our backyard oasis offers a serene and lush surrounding, perfect for meeting up with a friend, or enjoying some personal time outdoors. The space is pet-friendly and we have something small to keep your little ones partially occupied while you enjoy a coffee.
Our goal is simple: To create and maintain a space that the community can call their neighbourhood coffee shop. In doing so, we want to showcase all the wonderful things the City, Province and Country have to offer, by working with local producers.
We also have a strong focus on sustainability. We strive to make environmental impacts an aspect of almost every decision here at the shop. We're committed to :
- Reducing plastic : We have "Eco Options" for a bunch of our offerings to give you the option of going lid-less or sleeve-less.
- Shopping local : We try to reduce the distance our goods need to travel before they get to you. Building a strong local network of like-minded suppliers here in Ottawa is something we've been working hard on.
- Diverting Waste : Second hand and reclaimed materials are not only great for the environment, but also great for our wallets. We've found plenty of gems online that have made their way into our space instead of the landfill. Sometimes they come with fun stories and personal connections as well. We're here to stay.
Feel free to drop by and give us a try! We're looking forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
The CCH Team.
